The Challenge

Happy New Year. By now most of you have been back at work for a week or are just returning this week. When i talk to people, Happy New Year is still one of the 1st things said. Does anyone else feel like New Years Day was ages ago? The other thing heard all too often around this time of year is New Years Resolutions.

Now I'm not a fan of New Years Resolutions. Why? There seems to be a lot of hype about setting Resolutions for the coming 12 months. But just a few short months in to the New Year many resolutions are nothing more than a distant memory.

So instead of setting New Years Resolutions and trying to change a lot in a little time my challenge to you is to form new habits. It takes between 21-28 days to form a new habit so you have time to make 6 new habits before the end of the Financial Year.

In order for this strategy to work you need to have 6 improvements / changes you want to make in your business. If you don't have these targets already worked out let me know and we can help you decide what changes will have the most impact on your business.

Once you have your strategies worked out then it's on to implementation. This can be as simple as setting a reminder for yourself each day for the 28 days to ensure what you want to change becomes habit.

Your habits can be big tasks/ projects or simple business improvement strategies. You may want to work on your cash flow as an example. If this was the case then part of your habit might be invoicing and chasing debtors on a daily basis. You may also want to include a cash flow management system to ensure you are aware of your cash flow position. If project management is something you may want to improve then you might start with setting yourself 28 days to research your current system, decide what is lacking & search for a new system. The next 28 days may be implementation of that system.

Now if you have a team each person on the team can also help the business in forming a particular habit or you may want to divide & conquer. ie give each person in the team a specific habit for the next 28 days. When multiplied out you can certainly achieve massive gains in your business. All from forming a habit.

What new habits do you want to form?
